Martyn James goes through the finer points of setting up NoSno Soft bindings NoSno softs are great bindings. They work well straight out the box but with a little tweaking they can be made a lot more comfortable and responsive. Stance My bindings are set up with a 6 degree duck foot stance. This means my feet are angled the same amount. This is because I find it easy to ride in switch with this stance. It also seems to be easier for me to tweak things with the bindings at a almost neutral angle (0,0). My bindings are set to be as far apart as I could possibly get them on the board, I find this reduces the spin weight and makes the board easier to handle. These are my preferences, but everyone is different, depending on what terrain you ride and how your feet feel comfortable you opinion may vary from mine. Toe Strap The toe strap on the noSno soft binding has two possible positions. I find the bindings hold your toes down better in a heelside turn if you have them bolted into the furthest away hole. This might not work for you if your feet are small. Foot Strap When the bindings come out of the box the foot strap and its respective ladder strap are located in the back holes of the bindings. This will be good if you are wearing snowboard boots or very high walking boots. For most other footwear its position is not ideal. I found the strap rode up my foot and over the top of my shoes a lot. I solved this problem by moving the ladder strap forward to another hole so the strap runs across the foot diagonally. Another problem you may encounter with the foot strap is that they are too large and difficult to get nice and tight on your feet. To solve this I drilled an extra hole on the foot strap further up the strap. This allows the strap to be tightened a lot more. I also cut off the excess part of the foot strap because it dangled down below my board and served no real purpose after I drilled the new holes. Heel Strap I used to find that the heel strap on these bindings slowly tightened itself when you dropped the board or something, this lead to me constantly readjusting my bindings because the heel straps would push my feet forward over the toe edge. To stop this happening I would recommend buying two MBS Cam Lock ratchets or something similar. These can be fixed to the heel strap by drilling out the old rivets and bolting the Cam Locks in using the supplied T-Nut. These new ratchets allow you to set up your heel straps once then never have to fiddle with them again. By Martyn James |
