South East

Haredown MBC
The Fox Goes Free,Haredown

The Fox Goes Free free house, Charlton, Chichester, West Sussex.

Web: www.thefoxgoesfree.com

Directions form Haredown MBC

Turn right out of Hardown MBC car park and follow road for about 2 miles though East Dean, the pub is on the right just before a left hand bend going into Charlton. There is a large car park also on the right just before you get the pub.

What's it like?

The Fox Goes Free is a traditional pub with picnic tables outside and large Beer Garden, overlooking green fields with sheep greazing behind. The interior is what you would expect with low ceilings, beams and an open fire opposite the bar. There isn’t lots of space inside and cold or rainy days the bar can fill very quickly. There is also a restaurant, again this also gets very busy.

The Food

The are two menus: one bar menu and slightly more expensive restaurant menu. We normally opt for the bar menu. There is good variety on the menu and potions are all a good size and well prepared.

Drinks

As well as the normal range of beers and lagers there is also good range of real ales, plus a very good cask cider.Wink

Spaniards Wood
Spaniards Inn

Spaniards Road, Hampstead, London, NW3 7JJ

Directions from Spaniards wood

To find the pub head out of the top easten corner of the woods (the bit were the bike trails are and the big bomb hole, turn left when you get to the road and it's about 50 metres, just right for a mid sesh sports beer.

What's it like?

This is one of the oldest pubs in london and as escaped from all attemps to modernise it over the centuries, so has kept all of it's original snugs, beams and pannelling. Wondering through the doors you can also sense that Dick Turpin is in one windows watching the road for his next victim, or Keats is sitting writing in the beer garden.

All the romance of this pubs history aside, it is a large country pub with a big beer garden, which serves good food and cooks a mean burger.

The Food

There is a large menu and in the summer months there is also a BBQ menu from the garden

Drinks

As well as all the normal beers and lagers they also offer a good range of real ales and some suffolk cider.

RTH XBP
The Toby Carvey, Red Hill

Directions from Ride The Hill XBP (The Priory)

Turn left out the centre and then left at T-junction, then left again at the T-junction with the A25 following signs for Red Hill. Follow road down into Red Hill, pub is on the left just before you get to the station (very handy if you have come by train)

What's it like?

It’s a chain pub, don’t expect a nice village pub!

The Food

Not exactly a culinary experience. The potions are a good especially from the carvery and everything isn’t overly expensive.

Drinks

The normal range of beers and lagers.

South West

Gwithian Sands
Red River Inn

1 Prosper Hill, Gwithian, Hayle, Cornwall, TR27 5BJ

Website: www.red-river-inn.com

Directions

From Gwithian Sands drive back along the road behind the sand dunes, Turn left at the T- Junction and the Red River inn is half a mile on your right opposite

the Gwithian Farm Camp site, which is a very good camp site if you are staying the area.

What's it like?

The Red River Inn is nice local Cornish village pub with a beer garden opposite. It serves good food and is only a short drive from the Mountainboard playground of Gwithian Sands. Only thing is, like everywhere else in the area it doesn’t serve food between 3 and 6

Food

The Normal pub menu just with locally sourced ingredients, there is also a specials board. All portions are a good size and not too expensive

Drinks

Apart from the normal range of beers and lagers there is also good range of Real Ales for people to sample and some Stoffords Press cider on tap.

Sunset Café

Gwithian Sands

Website: www.sunsetsurfshop.co.uk

Directions

Just behind the National Trust car park

What's it like?

While this isn’t a pub it’s worth a mention because the food is so good and it so close to the dunes for grabbing a quick bite to eat mid sesh. You can even ride down the road to the door of the café. They also hire wet suits and surf boards if it's to hot for mountainboarding. What more could you want!

Food

A very good range of sandwiches, bake patatoes and not forgetting Cornish cream teas and other café type food.

Drinks

The cafe is licenced plus the normal range of tea and coffees, they also do the most amazing hot chocolates with marshmallows and whipped cream.

The Extreme Academy

The Beach Hut

On the Beach

What's it like?

It's nice enough for your bohemian themed beach side cafe bar. The best thing is the large windows, which are pretty good for sitting and watching the surf with a coffee in hand. The only bad point is it is fairly pricey but then it is in the middle of a tourist hot spot, so what can you expect?

Food

It does have a very good sized menu with lots of good thing on it and the burgers are pretty amazing

Drinks

Normal selection of beers and lagers and the hot chocolates come topped with whipped cream and marshmallows.
