An Interview wth NoSno Rider Myles Hillier

mylesinterview

Miles hillier, a sentiment shared by most mountainboarders but none more so than NoSnos latest stunt monkey, Myles Hillier.

Myles Hillier that's one of the best names I have heard for a mountainboarder. Do you think your parent's always thought you turn out to be a mountainboader?

lol that's a good one, no i don't think so lol. Although i can't believe they didn't think I would get the piss taken.

What got you into mountainboarding?

Well... you know that Jack Beezer kid? well i have known him since we were just little pups. He started mountainboarding a little while before me when hill62 opened just a walk away from our houses, and well I'm just a sheep when it comes to things like that :)

How long have been riding now?

Erm that's a difficult one lol, probably about 4 years ago? you guys probably know better than i do ha ha.

Living quite literally at the bottom of the hill where the hill62 centre was, how much time did you spend up there when you started riding - did you ride any other places in the beginning?

I went there pretty much most weekends and didn't really ride anywhere else until I started talking to the usual crew who were there and started going freeriding with them.

You skate a lot as well - how much has skating influenced your mountainboarding?

Because I have skated on and off since I was like six (I'm still rubbish though) I got the hang of mountainboarding pretty quick. Also I guess thats why I have always enjoyed doing freestyle and drop-offs - lots of air time!

Does it help with big freestyle tricknige (this is written after Myles landed his first backside rodeo)

Um not really it just meant i enjoy being in the air, when i first started atb big jumps scared the crap out of me!

As well the freestyle you are a pretty sick freerider. What got you off the grassy slopes and into the woods.

Why thank you very much :) As i said before just the usual crew at hill62 got me out and showed me a whole new perspective of mountainboarding, I love it!

How much did riding with the great fayjay effect the way you ride, is this what got you on a NoSno

FayJay influenced my riding hugely, he encouraged me to do things I really probably shouldn't have, ha ha, but at the same time improved my riding immensely. I guess Fay Jay was a big influence to me getting a NoSno. But it was also the fact that a lot of the guys i rode/ride with ride NoSnos, also i just prefer the technologie of the turning systems to other boards.

Living with some of the best freeride terrain in the country on your door step. Has it influence on the way you ride.

Well yeah defiantly, i mean there aren't any close centres so riding the woods was the only natural thing to do and god yeah it is good!

Which would you prefer to do, spend a day riding, at centre or in the woods

Ha ha i thought that question would be coming... It all depends on how i feel that day, although recently i have just wanted to lay new stuff down on freestyle, but i should be freeriding this weekend XD

Does it mean you look at a slopestyle park in a different way or does your skating play more of part.

I think I'm pretty average when it comes to looking at new lines in a park. I think everybody thinks of them and only sometimes do you hit them, all depends on weather you think it's really going to work.

What's your favourite place you have ridden

That's a very difficult question. First one that pops into my head though is Crooked Mustard, cause it scared the shit out of me! but that is only one discipline of the sport. So boarder x probably Court Farm, for freestlye probably Bugs Boarding, cause its huge, even though i did really bad at the worlds.

What has been your most memorable days riding so far.

Um probably when we went to Bristol for the weekend and hit some of the sickest freeride ever or when i landed my first backflip at SWMBC this year, proper stoked!

What was going through your mind before you did your first back flip over dirt.

I think the only way to land a trick for the first time is to not think about it too much and be confident in what your about to do. I was saying to myself "this is easy, this is easy Myles!"

Would you say that lots of time spent on trampoline and practicing into a foam pit helped.

Trampoline backflips for me are very different, but it does help. Practicing in a foam pit is defiantly the way forward though.

Have got any good tips for anyone thinking of getting on a NoSno.

If its the first board your getting then great! I think you will get used to it pretty easily. If you have ridden anything else, then i suggest you try one first because it is different.

Do think riding the Pete Tatham misty deck has given you any special powers. Like being able to flick bottle caps at moving targets.

I think it has defiantly given me special powers! However i already can flick bottle caps, nowhere near as good as Pete though.

What plans have you got for next session.

Ride harder, Learn new Tricks and experiment with freestyle in the woods more :D

Is it true DC tried to assassinate you.

If by DC you mean the shoe company then no... However if you mean Dave Compton then yes! It was less of an assassination attempt, more like being drunk and sitting on the top of his car while he was driving it lol

Batty Booter? please explain. I heard it is the result from a terrible accident with you and some radioactive Lycra

Um yeah lol... i got bored and decided to compete with Dave Comptons pictures ha ha

One last question, do extra bits of skin on your knees flap in the breeze

No not really they are just fun to stretch lol

Now for the real part of the interview. The Remolition Questions How many pairs of shoes do you own

ha ha i was dreading this one... about 8 i only wear like 5 though ha ha

Blue or red tyres

Black work best, but i prefer the blue if i had to choose

How big do think a mountainboard will be before it becomes the first mountainboard bus.

It would have to hold at least 8 people

Have you ever been to Radnigde

Huh?

What do you do on a Thursday

Work in a pub..

Beer or Cider

Depends on the day but usually beer

Marmite good or bad
