Crazy Cream Teas and Magical Mountainboard Jam '09

CT&J09

Down near the south coast of England, just outside of Hailsham, the BFC and Remolition's Cream Teas and Jam series got off to a cracking start. Knockhill MBC had been groomed to perfection with all manner of goodness - rails, wallrides and numerous jibtastic features, being perfectly prepared for the first big event of the season...

Saturday

The day began properly around midday with an informal competition for the groms which saw some top class racing and freestyle antics from the local riders and future stars of the sport.

For the open, the centre was divided into 4 zones where riders would have sweet jam sessions, with the results being scored by the riders themselves, nominating their top 5 in each zone: a 1st place nomination resulted in winning 5 points, a 2nd place winning 4 points and so on. The results from each zone were then added together to produce the overall results...

The standard of riding was epic and boundaries were certainly pushed throughout the day. The 1st zones highlights included sweet taps n bonks off the barrels and Gary Crowhursts switch backside 720 off of the drop, as well as his (do a double-take) wallride to backflip attempt.

The 2nd zone was literally littered with rails and riders once again pushed the standard of rail riding at knockhill with Simon Andrews and Dave Compton et all sliding, grinding and jibbing everything in sight.

The 3rd zone included quarter pipes and a crazy, original wallride type-feature with coping along the top and a kicker onto it, which was shut down by the mad skills and skate style tricks of riders like Ryan Roberts. 50-50 crooked nose stalls, bs transfers, sweet MJ's on the coping, it all went off.

The final dirt tabletop jump had riders putting on a spectacular freestyle show which included backflips, frontflips, rodeos, switch flips, 540s and 720s from the likes of Matt Brind.

The hilarious sumo suit from last year returned, alongside a BFC comp special, smash the Pinata with your board- a haribo filled paper mache balloon, dangled from an old ski by Mr. Rhys Crilley.  Well funny.

In the end, the riders votes were collated and the top 3 were announced: in 3rd place with 177 points was Matt Brind, 2nd place went to Simon Andrews with 180 points and winning the first round of the 09 Cream Teas & Jam series, was Gary Crowhurst with 189 points!

There were sweet prizes on offer from all the lovely sponsors, from tyre packs to aerobies, original Rem artwork to incredible tie-dye BFC jumpers, cash money and yard-of-ale glasses. For real!

Spot prizes returned, and:

Best Trick went to Alan Newman

Most Gnar and Progression went to Ryan Roberts

Most Fun with a Mega Smile went to Joel Treliving

In the Kids Comp Ralph Mitchell came 1st, Fletcher Pearce 2nd and Elliot Wiseman came 3rd

Well done to all riders for max fun and ting!

Riders and spectators then chilled for the evening and settled in the bar for a sneaky peek at the BFC's latest film offering, 'We'll apologise later', a road-trip documentary complete with muchos sickness to witness- expect a full review on Rem soon.

By the way, we also caught a glimpse of Trampa's shiny new gear and it's looking hot.

Many thanks to all involved for making it one seriously wicked weekend of mountainboard magick: Sponsors MBS, ATBShop, Trampa, Monster, and especially Roger and Kim at Knockhill MBC for being the consumate hosts ;)
